Mirus Bio Outreach Program Resources
Transfection Teaching Modules
Interested in incorporating a Mirus Bio lecture in your biotechnology course? Our Transfection Experts love to share their knowledge of nucleic acid delivery. We have three general teaching "modules" that we have used to tailor our message to different audiences based on the students' technical level. These video lectures are free to use in your teaching and biology outreach activities.
Module 1: Overview of Gene Transfer
This module introduces transfection as a process analogous to naturally occurring gene transfer mechanisms. The presentation is brief and focuses on the broader concepts of nucleic acid delivery and what it is like to work as a life scientist. Appropriate for high school biology courses where students may also want to discuss science careers.

Module 2: Introduction to Transfection
Module 2 also presents transfection as a process that has its roots in naturally occurring gene transfer processes such as viral infections, bacterial conjugation as well as plant and animal reproduction. This presentation covers some of the biology and chemistry underlying gene delivery technology and introduces examples of transfection in action—applications such as RNAi, genome editing and stem cell reprogramming. Appropriate for undergraduates and technical college students.

Module 3: Transfection Fundamentals
This presentation gives an overview of nucleic acid delivery and goes into more mechanistic depth regarding the cell biology of transfection and chemical formulations of transfection reagents. This module is most appropriate for students with a strong scientific background such as current graduate students and post-doctoral researchers.
