Shipping Supervisor/Shipping Manager

Job Summary

Mirus Bio LLC, a growing biotech company is seeking a Shipping Supervisor or Shipping Manager to join our team. This position supervises staff and is responsible for ensuring the accurate kitting and delivery of our temperature sensitive products, including GMP products, to customers worldwide. A proven track record of managing the activities of a shipping department is a must including inventory, personnel and deadlines. This is a front-line supervisory role with direct reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the shipping department by identifying shipping priorities and shipping methods necessary to meet company, regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Manage and participate in the final product assembly which includes kitting final product, assigning kit lot numbers and expiration dates.
  • Supervise a shipping team of 2-3 direct reports.
  • Ensure accuracy of shipment documentation and packaging of orders, with strong attention to detail. Oversee GMP shipment processes including coordinating pickup of product through Biocair or other carriers as needed, shipping documentation, etc.
  • Process shipments in Microsoft Dynamics NAV including coordinating international shipments to multiple distributors on a weekly basis. Create and maintain assembly bill of materials, assembly order reports, etc.
  • Utilize shipping services such as FedEx, UPS, DHL, Biocair and freight forwarders
  • Maintain current knowledge and certifications for shipping life science products (e.g. IATA dangerous goods certification, export controls, etc.)
  • Maintain dangerous goods certification training records for department
  • Generate and maintain shipment documentation such as user dangerous goods declaration, commercial invoices, etc. for domestic and international shipment
  • Ensure adequate inventory is maintained of packaging supplies including boxes, labels, blue ice packs and dry ice. Ordering and receiving supplies as necessary.
  • Manage product inventory, final product storage refrigeration/freezer units, offsite storage and maintenance of units. Will be primary contact for temperature notifications/alerts for refrigerator/freezer units where final product is stored.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for resolving shipping issues, setting up new shipping processes and authoring department standard operating procedures (SOPs), shipping verification studies, deviations, etc.
  • Serve as the authority on all aspects related to shipping dangerous goods domestically and internationally.
  • Attend and contribute to management, staff and/or new product introduction meetings.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Strong managerial and interpersonal skills. Excellent attention to detail.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a shipping role. Experience with a Life Sciences / Biotechnology company with GMP or ISO certified related product experience.
  • Experience supervising direct reports is preferred. A minimum of 0-2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, effectively balancing multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Proficiency using FedEx Ship Manager, DHL and UPS World Ship software.
  • Experience with managing inventory in an ERP environment, including managing accurate inventory demonstrated through monthly metrics.
  • Prior IATA and /or 49 CFR experience and certification is required.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Ability to bend and lift 30 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally move a box up to 70 pounds from waist high scale to waist high cart.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
