Generation of knock-down animal models using proprietary Mirus Bio in vivo nucleic acid delivery technologies.
Analyzing gene function is a critical tool for deciphering the role of specific genes or functional metabolic pathways. To date, the tool of choice has been genetic knock-out animals. But this approach is limited by the time required to generate a successful model, cost and the impact on embryonic development.
Mirus offers select customers the capability of generating knock-down animal models using our proprietary hydrodynamic delivery technology. This allows researchers to evaluate gene function in days or weeks versus months – and at a fraction of the cost. These animal models can be generated in adult animals in a wide variety of species and strains. The knock-down is targeted to a specific organ or tissue, usually liver. Moreover, one can silence genes that would be lethal or introduce artifacts during embryonic development. In addition, Mirus technology can be used to induce expression of a target gene in liver or skeletal muscle to further enhance the application of the animal model for studying metabolic pathways.
