Mirus Bio Appoints Richard Schifreen as VP Research Products and Joseph Williams as VP Finance & Administration
MADISON, Wis., June 1, 2005 — Mirus Bio Corporation today announced the appointments of Richard Schifreen Ph.D. as Vice President Research Products and Joseph Williams as Vice President Finance & Administration. Most recently, Dr. Schifreen was Director Technology and Business Development at Promega Corporation, a leading provider of life science research products located in Madison WI, and Mr. Williams was VP Finance & Administration at Reliant Technologies, a medical laser company located in Palo Alto, CA.
“The industry knowledge, expertise and depth of experience that Rich and Joe bring to Mirus Bio greatly strengthens our leadership team. Each is an accomplished executive, and together they will play a key role in executing our business plan and accelerating the growth of our research products division in particular,” noted Russell Smestad, Mirus Bio’s President.
Dr. Schifreen was employed at Promega (1998-2005) and Life Technologies (1989-1998), where he specialized in business and product development for new technologies in life science research and molecular diagnostics. He began his professional career in the medical products department of DuPont Company in 1980, applying molecular and biochemical technologies to new applications in clinical diagnostics. Dr. Schifreen is also a faculty member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Masters of Science in Biotechnology Program. He earned his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the University of Georgia in 1978 and is a Diplomat of the American Board for Clinical Chemistry.
Mr. Williams brings to Mirus more than 25 years of financial management experience from computer, software, laser, semiconductor and other high technology companies. Most recently, Mr. Williams was Vice President Finance and Administration at Reliant Technologies Inc., a medical laser company. Prior to that, Mr. Williams served as Chief Financial Officer for a number of venture funded start-up companies in California’s Silicon Valley. Mr. Williams was employed for 15 years with Coherent, Inc., the world’s leading laser manufacturer, culminating in a five-year tenure as Vice President, Finance and Administration. Mr. Williams is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southwest Texas State University.
